You can manually update the software by following these easy steps:
All DStv installations make use of an LNB (low-noise block downconverter). The LNB is the receiving “arm” that you see mounted on your satellite dish. It collects radio waves from the dish and converts these into a signal which your decoder can understand.
There are many types of LNBs, ranging from a single LNB (used with our single view decoders) to quad LNBs and UniCable LNBs.
The DStv Smart LNB is a new LNB which has been specially designed and manufactured for DStv to meet the growing needs of our non-commercial installations. It is not suitable for Multiple Unit Dwellings (like complexes and apartments).
MultiChoice recommends the DStv Smart LNB for all DStv Explora and most XtraView installations (when installed in a Single Unit Dwelling, ie. not a complex or apartment).
From a technical viewpoint, the DStv Smart LNB combines the features of a DStv Switch into a single UniCable LNB and offers a single cable solution for distribution of multiple satellite signals.
It has 30 user bands, three UniCable outputs and one universal output.
We recommend that all changes to existing installations, including the replacement of LNBs be done by our DStv Accredited Installers. Click here to find your nearest DStv accredited installer.
* Older decoder models (Dual View Decoder and the SD PVR) are not capable of receiving high band transmissions, even if installed with a DStv Smart LNB.
The recommended retail price of the DStv Smart LNB is R449.

All our decoders can be installed with a DStv Smart LNB, however some XtraView combos may require use of multiswitches with a Quad LNB.
We are continually researching and developing many new features and enhancements. In 2017, we’ll also launch a brand new satellite, which will allow us to bring our customers more content and exciting services. From that point, our customers will get their DStv service and channels from two satellites—our current and the new satellite.
As a result of these developments and to simplify installations, we’ve updated our installation recommendations for all decoders (including XtraView installations).

Most of our customers who already have DStv don’t need to worry about changing their installations at the moment. Changes may be required when new features are released or when upgrading to newer decoders, or getting XtraView.

Although the DStv HD Decoder does work with a DStv Smart LNB, the recommended installation for a single view decoder is a single LNB and an 80cm dish.
You can select to do the installation with a DStv Smart LNB, however there will be an additional charge for this.
Only the unused UniCable ports need to be terminated (this is to prevent signal degradation). Termination must be done using the supplied 75 ohm terminator. Three of these terminators (“caps”) are packaged with the DStv Smart LNB.
There is no need to terminate the Universal ports.
In order to set and control what your kids watch on DStv, and to ensure that their tender eyes and ears are not subjected to content beyond their age group, we recommend that you make use of the parental control features available on your digital decoder.

Change your parental control PIN
Forgot your PIN?
If you've set your parental control levels, but have forgotten your PIN and need to have it reset, or if you've entered the incorrect PIN five times, please click here or dial *120*68584# from your cellphone*
*The cellphone number you use when dialling *120*68584# must be the number you registered when activating your DStv account.
Yes it is. However, it cannot be linked with an SD PVR in XtraView.
Please note: The use of XtraView requires payment of an additional Access Fee of R85 per month.
We recommend the use of an accredited installer for all XtraView installations.
If you have an existing XtraView installation and will be swopping one of the devices for the DStv HD Device, DO NOT disconnect the two existing devices before you have phoned MultiChoice and requested that the XtraView link between those two existing devices is broken.
The DStv HD Device will work with any TV. HD content is however only available when connected to an HD TV via HDMI and if you are on a package that has HD channels.
Please note: there is no additional charge for the HD channels. You will receive the HD version of channels if you have an HD capable device and TV, and the channels are available in your package.
Although the device is capable of displaying subtitles, these are only available on certain programmes where the channel suppliers include subtitles.
In keeping abreast with technological progression, MultiChoice constantly introduces new hardware. MultiChoice does not upgrade or refund existing hardware.
If you have an XtraView capable single view device, you can keep your existing single view device and link it to the new DStv HD Device using XtraView.
This will allow you to access two different channels in your home at the same time (you can watch a movie in the lounge, while the kids watch cartoons in their room).
The use of XtraView requires payment of a monthly access fee. Please note, this may require an upgrade to your installation.
